Chapter 13: The Hero Appears

What would your good do if evil didn’t exist, and what would the earth look like if all the shadows disappeared?

alyssapandaeyes:

You open your eyes hazily, and blink away the tears as the morning light floods in.   You are on a beach, a cold rocky beach.  You fumble in your leather jacket pockets, looking for your black sunglasses to keep the light out of your eyes, it’s starting to go to your head.   Sitting up and looking around, you’re not sure what day or what time it is.   You pull out your pack of cigarettes, there’s only two left and one of them is bent.  Your shoulders slump slightly.  You grab your lighter and spend the next minute or so trying to get it to light in the strong wind coming up from the shoreline.   You look out at the dark grey waves, coming slowly in and out as you suck the smoke into your lungs.   Then it hits you.   Hits you like a wave crashing against the slick black rocks.  The thing you’ve been trying to pretend wasn’t there, that nagging feeling in your mind that you were forgetting or ignoring something absolutely horrible.    It hits you; all the reasons that sent you into the night before, the night that you can only barely remember, the worst night of trying to forget everything with anything that would make you feel just a little bit better.  As you remember it all, every heartbreaking, depressing thing that has happened to you, you feel the first rain drops land on your freezing hand wrapped tightly around your rapidly disappearing cigarette.   The rain doesn’t bother you though, it is welcome.   It fits your mood perfectly.   You get up, steadying yourself on the uneven surface in your leather boots and get up to wander along the beach as you finish your cigarette and the rain gets stronger.   The only thing that makes all of it feel any better is music.   This is the soundtrack.
